American actress, film producer, and director Courtney Cox has been known for being one of the stars from “Friends” and many other T.V. shows and movies. Her first major role was a star appearance on a Magnum P.I. episode in 1983 – she was only 17 at the time. As a child, she was reportedly shy and socially awkward until eventually breaking out of her shell in high school. Another big break came when she was cast as the audience member who got to dance with Bruce Springsteen in his legendary Dancing In The Dark video.

Courtney Cox was born in Alabama on June 15, 1964. She began performing at a young age, starting with dance lessons before becoming involved with theater productions. She then auditioned for commercials, making appearances in McDonald’s and Coca-Cola advertisements before she landed major roles throughout the 1980s. Her first notable role came as Tiffany Welles on the series “Family Ties” (1982 -1989), but it was her role on “Friends” that propelled her into worldwide stardom.

Here are 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Actress Courtney Cox:

# 1 – She’s a girl from a small town in Alabama

This American beauty grew up in Huntsville, Alabama, where she graduated from Lee High School back in 1980 [btw: article year]. You would rarely guess it from looking at her, but before moving to Hollywood to pursue acting, she had her heart set on becoming a professional dancer.

# 2 – She’s part of the Brat Pack

After studying at Lee High School and then Belvoir College, Cox made her film debut in 1984 when she appeared in two movies, The Wild Life and Just One of the Guys. Following that success, it was 1987’s teen comedy Dirty Dancing where she got noticed by fans who later went to refer to the group as “The Brat Pack.” Her co-stars included Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Emilio Estevez, Matt Dillon, Andrew McCarthy, and Ally Sheedy.

# 3- A new love interest helps lead her down a new path

Though Cox was a fan favorite, her heart belonged to another man at the time. That is until she met actor David Arquette, who became a new love interest and helped Cox realize that being an actress was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life. Shortly after their meeting, they both went their separate ways and starred in different films before coming back together again as lovers and co-starring in Scream.

# 4 – She’s been married twice

While most fans know that David Arquette was one of Courtney’s former flames, many don’t know about her first husband, whom she called “the great love of my life” Welsh actor Jeff MacKay. The two wed on New Day 1990 and were newlyweds before getting divorced in 1991 [article year]. In 1994, she married actor and Scream co-star David Arquette, and the two have been together ever since despite rumors of splitting and reuniting.

# 5 – She got her big break on T.V.

No matter how many movies Cox makes, we can’t forget that her role as Monica Geller in the NBC sitcom Friends shot her to stardom. She played this character from 1994-2004 and made such an impression on viewers that they even named their fan club after her. But don’t think she’s content with just television; she still takes roles in films like The Longest Yard, Just Before I Go, Couples Retreat, and more.

# 6 – She’s not only an actress but a producer as well

It should come as no surprise that after starring in so many different productions, Cox would eventually take it upon herself to help produce and/or star in them as well, such as in 1999’s drama Happy Town. She partnered with her friend Lisa Kudrow to co-executive produce the upcoming Showtime series Web Therapy.

# 7 – She was nearly killed on set

While filming 1997’s Scream 2, Cox has stabbed through the hand by another actor during one particular scene! She is surprisingly not too far from death when you see how easily it could have gone wrong.

# 8 – There was almost a Friends spin-off show starring her character

If you were watching T.V. or reading entertainment news back in 2009, you already know that there was talk about creating a spin-off show called “Joey,” which would have featured Matt LeBlanc reprising his role as Joey Tribianni. The show would have centered around Joey moving to L.A. to help raise his newborn son with his sister Gina (played by Drea de Matteo). As for Monica, she would have also returned but “as the chief operating officer of a rival restaurant in L.A.” However, you’ll be glad to know that this never actually went through, so we got to keep our beloved Monica right where she is.

# 9 – She’s still close with her former co-stars

Though they haven’t worked together in years, Cox still maintains a good relationship with most of her former Friends co-stars, including Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc. She and Aniston hang out regularly, and she told the Today show back in 2013 that “we do see each other, we do have dinner.” As for her other friends, friends? They, too, still keep in touch, such as Kudrow, who has gone on to star on Cox’s new Showtime series Web Therapy.

# 10 – Her favorite episode of Friends was……

Though there were many great episodes throughout the 10 seasons of Friends, Cox went with Season 8’s “The One Where Rachel Has A Baby Part Two” as her absolute favorite.

Courtney Cox has been a part of many iconic television shows and movies, but she is also an entrepreneur. In recent years she has been continuing her acting career but moving more towards direction and production. In addition to her work as an actress, Courtney Cox enjoys spending time with friends and family in Los Angeles when not traveling for business or pleasure. She always finds ways to make sure that others know how much they mean to her by sending them thoughtful gifts from afar. It’s hard not to admire all that this multi-faceted woman does.
