Anya Taylor-Joy is a British and American actress. Born on April 16, 1996, in Miami, Florida (USA), to a British father and an American mother, she grew up in Banbury, Oxfordshire, England. As a child, Anya loved singing and dancing, but she quit when she turned 11 years old because acting felt more natural than performing on stage.

At age three, Taylor-Joy had her first ballet performance as the titular character of “Little Red Riding Hood” at age seven with Oxford Children’s Ballet. She trained as a dancer for many years until deciding that she wanted to become an actress at age 12. In 2010 she began attending The Ibstock Place School of Performing Arts & Technology, where she studied Drama twice per week, focusing on acting from ages 14–15.

In 2011 Taylor-Joy appeared in the television series “The Refugees” followed by shows such as “EastEnders” and “The Sparticle Mystery.” She also appeared in an episode of the second season of “Penny Dreadful” (2014). She made her film debut with supporting roles in the sci-fi thriller “Morgan” (2016) and psychological horror “The Witch” (2015).

In 2016, Taylor-Joy was cast as main character Thomasin in Robert Eggers’ independent period horror film, “The Witch,” which debuted at Sundance Film Festival to critical acclaim. Her performance garnered her early attention. Shortly after, she began production on M. Night Shyamalan’s film split, portraying Casey Cooke alongside James McAvoy, and Anya Taylor-Joy’s name was heavily rumored for other major motion pictures such as:” “The Girl with All the Gifts” and “Assassin’s Creed.”

In April 2021, she appeared in the drama film Here “Are The Young Men” based on the novel of the same name by Rob Doyle. There is a lot to know about this star. To know more about her, continue reading these 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Anya Taylor-Joy:

# 1 – She’s the youngest of six kids:

On April 16, 1996, Anya Taylor-Joy was born in Miami, Florida, to Galina and Marco Taylor-Wood (whose real name is Mark Taylor Wood). Her family moved to Argentina when she was three months old before moving back to England when she was four years old. Anya grew up with two older sisters and three older brothers. The actor Tom Sturridge is her half-brother from her father’s previous marriage.

# 2- At age 16, she left school to become an actress:

Born in Miami but raised in Madrid until she was 8, Anya moved with her family to London for what she thought would be a short visit. However, at the age of 16, she decided that school wasn’t really for her and gave up on formal education to become an actress. It looks like it was the right decision.

# 3 – She seems to like starring in thrillers:

Although many of us know Anya best from Split (2016) or The Witch (2015), she doesn’t always appear in dark movies. Her first role was as Tom Holland’s little sister in the film “The Impossible” (2012). She also acted alongside James McAvoy and Mark Strong in the 2016 movie “Victor Frankenstein,” playing Igor to McAvoy’s title character.

# 4 – She didn’t learn English until she was eight years old:

Anya moved with her family from Argentina to Spain when she was two, but it wasn’t until the age of 8 that she finally learned English after moving once again to London. Once there, she quickly made friends at her new school but also experienced some bullying due to her accent and appearance, which made her cover herself in makeup not to stand out so much. Thankfully things have changed for Anya since those days.

# 5 – She did not want to move from Argentina to London:

Although the first few years of school were pretty tough for Anya, it sounds as though she became a typical “Londoner” pretty quickly. Well, at least that’s what you would assume from reading the previous point. Anya was so happy living in Argentina that she didn’t want to move at all, but her parents felt they had to for their children’s futures and were determined not to let anything get in their way.

# 6 – She’s considered a scream queen:

When Anya Taylor-Joy moved from Argentina to England, she didn’t know how to speak English and had to take lessons in her new school which led most of her classmates to make fun of her and bully her until she left high school at 16 years old. After that, she started taking acting classes and eventually was signed by the London-based agency WMA.

# 7 – She’s a trained ballet dancer:

We know Anya can act and sing, but she also studied ballet at The Royal Ballet School until the age of 16 before quitting due to her work schedule. This isn’t something you see every day for an actress.

# 8 – She plays ukulele and electric guitar:

With all that dancing, it seems only natural that Anya would pick up some other musical skills – especially since music is such a big part of her life thanks to both parents being musicians (they were in a band together). Anya has even said how much she looks forward to playing the ukulele on set between takes as it helps her relax.

# 9 – She was scouted as a model while walking her dog:

Anya has been modeling since the age of fourteen, but her recent work for Miu Miu caught people’s attention. After attending an open call audition, she was offered the chance at becoming a model – which came as a surprise to Anya, who had just walked in off the street with her dog and was not dressed up or anything like that at all.

# 10 – She was badly bullied at school in London:

Back when she first moved to London, though, she was the victim of some serious bullying at school, which affected her for a long time after. It was so bad that she refused to go to the same school again the following year and instead enrolled nearby.

Anya Taylor-Joy is a captivating actress who has been featured in many films. She is also the star of this year’s most anticipated film, Split. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and playing the piano. Finally, we can see how much things have changed for Anya over the years, given everything else she has achieved so far.
